Daido Tanto

Daido O Tanto

A very nice long tanto by Fujishiro Jo Saku rated smith, Daido.  The NBTHK awarded this sword authentication as Hozon Token, worthy of preservation.  I have no doubt this sword would upgrade to Tokubetsu Hozon Token if sent to Japan.  Many times collectors will save money and just pay for Hozon Token to get the authentication.  The quality of this sword stands on its own.

Daidō was one of the few outstanding masters of the Sue-Seki school… he made a blade for Emperor Ōgimachi (正親町, 1517-1593) whereupon he received from the emperor the character “Dai/Ō” (大). [Markus Sesko]

At 27.7 cm, this tanto is almost wakazashi length.

A tanto like this would have been used to dispatch an opponent, issuing the final death blow.  I can imagine Musashi Miyamoto invoking his father’s Ju Jitsu instruction to gain full mount and finishing his opponent with a tanto like this.

It comes mounted in quality shirasaya and nice 2 piece habaki.

Price: $2000 USD
